In the past 12 months, almost $1 million has been invested on upgrading the boutique hotel’s facilities and creating LeSpa.

Apart from presenting an extensive range of luxurious Decleor, Lancôme and Li’Tya body and beauty treatments, LeSpa will also feature a team of highly trained therapists and the highest levels of service and professionalism.

The food and wine experience is also an essential part of a stay at the Sofitel Mansion & Spa. With the formal gardens of Werribee Park in the background, Joseph’s Restaurant will continue to offer a magnificent setting for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serve as a popular option for afternoon tea on weekends.

General Manager of the Sofitel Mansion & Spa, John Dickson said, “We are delighted to be joining the Sofitel network and with our new range of five star facilities and amenities, we will be projected to the forefront of the boutique hotel market in Australia.”

LeSpa is also a first for the South Pacific region and will add to an already impressive list of facilities at our landmark property,” John said.

Wander through the Helen Lempriere sculpture exhibition, which is on display from 1 March to 27 May 2007, visit the WerribeeOpen Range Zoo, drop in for a glass of wine at Shadowfax winery and take in the delightful scents from the 4,000 roses on display in the Victorian State Rose Garden.

Re-opening of Don Muang

It was announced yesterday that there will be a partial reopening of Bangkok’s Don Muang Airport to offset the problems that have arisen with the opening of the new Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The Thai Government previously discussed the option of reopening the older airport for domestic usage, but now international flights operating through Don Muang as well as Suvarnabhumi is a possibility when the airport will be re-opened in the first weekend in April. The decision of the routes that will move back to Don Muang will be decided on February 21.

The Ministry of Transport was at first adamant that the rearrangement of airlines throughout the two airports will be on a purely “voluntary basis”. Later, Transport Minister Admiral Theera Haochareon stated that the movements would be decided after a study of the practicality of flight allotments before airlines would be free to make a decision.

This decision to re-open Don Muang has been a result of speculation that the ineffective use of Suvarnabhumi’s full range of facilities is creating increasing passenger traffic in the airport that is already operating at peak capacity of 45 million passengers a year.

Another reason for the move has also been blamed on the already damaged runways of the new airport. Suvuarnabhumi’s runways, taxiways and terminal buildings are under investigation with an engineering report expecting to find more than 100 cracks in the runways. The repair of the damages will reduce Suvarnabhumi to just one runway, creating an even greater backlog of passengers waiting around in the airport.

Many are already looking at this move as the latest disaster in a long run of problems that the new airport has been experiencing since its opening in September last year. This has created some image issues for the airport, but Minister Theera remains optimistic saying that “having two airports will not ruin the image; instead it will strengthen it. Instead of saying Suvarnabhumi Airport as a hub, Thailand as a whole is.”

Passengers who will be flying to Thailand in 45 days time from the first weekend of April will be able to know which airport that they will be arriving at by the airport codes. Suvarnabhumi Airport will be retaining its BKK airport code and flights to Don Muang Airport will be operating under the code DMK.

Omani Tourism showcase the stunning jewel of the Gulf

Oman. A place of amazing wonders with over 5000 years of mystery and culture to thrill any traveller. It is truly the place where fantastical tales of the exotic are created and, as Air Marketing executive Bill McNamara said: “it is a place with the friendliest and most beautiful people in the world.”

It is because of this beauty and depth in culture that Oman has grown exponentially as a top tourist destination in the past decade. The Arabian state sits between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Sea, adding to its potential for growth in the industry. As McNamara commented: “Twenty years ago, no one knew where Arabia was.” Today, travellers looking for an exotic destination walk into travel agents and request more information on Oman.

This growing demand for travel to the region prompted the Omani Ministry of Tourism to investigate the best ways to increase travel to the region in the coming years. It is hoped that tourism numbers to Oman will triple by 2010.

Flamenco a Hit in Spain Week at Thailand’s Expo Royal Flora

Since Spain Week began on 26th January at Expo Royal Flora, the flamenco troupe that gives interactive classes at the Spanish garden in the morning has been scoring huge successes with its afternoon performances in the amphitheatre of Thailand’s Expo Royal Flora event. Another popular event is the food tasting, where an expert ham slicer and a wine pourer display their skills, and visitors can sample Spanish sherry, among other treats.

The government of Spain’s southern region of Andalusia has played an important part in staging the events of Spain Week. Over a five-day period a flamenco troupe gives interactive classes in the morning and performances in the afternoon. The troupe is made up by dancers Yolanda Lorenzo and Rafael de Carmen, singers Nano de Jerez and Juan José Amador, clapper and percussionist José Jimenez Santiago “Bobote”, and guitarist Eduardo Rebollar. Both the classes and performances are well-attended by enthusiastic crowds.

For Spain Week the Andalusian government also brought to the Thai Expo an expert ham slicer and a wine pourer to introduce visitors to the delights of the unique Spanish cured ham, which must be sliced paper thin, and the rich sherry wines from near the Spanish town of Jerez de la Frontera.

Paradee Suite Villa brings a hint of Morocco to Thailand

Thailand's Samed Resorts Group has launched the secluded beachside Paradee Suite Villa @ Paradee Resort & Spa Koh Samet.

The Villa overlooks the pure sands of the crescent-shaped Ao Kiu beach, near the southern tip of Samed Island. Yet, muted yellow tones and unique furnishings bring a certain Moroccan charm to this 200 square metre property.

“The aim was to create a rustic chic style with a touch of Thai design that was in keeping with the romantic seaside landscape,” said Paradee’s Interior Designer, Ms Li Lightbody from Bangkok-based Abacus Design. “The Thai and Moroccan-style elements work very well together.”

What makes the Paradee Suite Villa special is that it is built around a hardwood tree, which reaches as far up as the rooftop spa and dining area.

“The Paradee Suite is very special with a beautiful swimming pool that is your very own,” said Swedish jewellery designer Efva Attling after staying at Paradee with Swedish singing legend, Eva Dahlgren.

“The bedroom has a super comfortable bed with a big panorama window overlooking the turquoise sea. The Suite is ideal for people who want a place to hideaway for romance or to rest in privacy,” she added.
